Finnish artist Kari Kola to illuminate the opening of the Year of Light in Paris
The UN General Assembly has proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies. The International Year of Light is a global initiative which will highlight to the citizens of the world the importance of light in their lives, for their futures, and for the development of society.
Kari Kola, a light artist from Joensuu, Finland will be installing a spectacular light display for the opening ceremony of the Year which will take place from January 19-20 2015 at UNESCO HQ in Paris in the iconic Fontenoy building very close to the Eiffel Tower.
The Opening Ceremony sets the stage for the Year of activities and celebrations with 1500 attendees including leading diplomats,scientists and industry CEOs from around the world.
Kola’s installation, titled ”Light Is Here”, deals with light inmultiple ways in a stylistically abstract form. It will create avisually enchanting appearance for the building, reflecting the most powerful elements of natural light: Northern lights and aurora. Thus the colours of the building will be blue and green, contrasting with the warm colours of aurora. It’s a 360-degree installation.
