Light Artist Kari Kola Crafting Light Art for His Hometown
After a long period of restoration, Suvantosilta bridge in Joensuu will be re-opened for traffic on Joensuu Day, 27th November at 10 a.m. Light Artist Kari Kola, a resident of Joensuu city, will create a festive lighting for the bridge opening ceremony.
—I think Suvantosilta bridge is a handsome element in our city center, it’s familiar and significant for the residents, and so I want to emphasize it in a ceremonial manner. I will highlight the sturdy forms and structures of the renewed Suvantosilta bridge with dynamic, and the so called ”brakeup” light. The lighting will be set up above the water and it is focused on the substructures of the bridge, reveals Kari Kola on the festive illumination. —After creating several artworks of light abroad and in other parts of Finland, it feels great to work in my home town and especially, to bring light to Joensuu residents. The Pielisjoki river is the crown of Joensuu city and its beauty is never underlined enough. It’s one of my favourite places in Joensuu and I’m very happy to create light art here, by the river, explains Kola on the site of his artwork.
The special lighting of Suvantosilta will be displayed during 27th November - 11th December, 2015.
